Just Degusting.... Why?

This Blog is meant to be nothing more than an opinion on the perception of a restaurant (or perhaps just a single dish), on a particular occasion. Eating is more than just stuffing your face trying to get full. It is an experience, and for us, that experience might start several hours before you head out to a restaurant... Thinking about the cuisine, finding a restaurant, imagining the foods you might be eating - it's all part of it.

The ritual of eating, and the smells and tastes of particular foods - for me is like music in many ways - it triggers a range of memories and emotions. It's a powerful way to connect with others - sharing food, or 'breaking bread'.  For that reason, and considering that we all have different tastes, the experience of a particular place or particular dish is going to be subjective, and I'd hate for someone to avoid trying a dish or a restaurant because of my subjective opinion on my experience there. (That said, if the place is just plain shyte, we'll let you know to avoid it...)

Food philisophy?
Our top reasons for Degusting, and for compiling a blog about it are:
  • We like to try different things, and we'd rather order 3 small dishes than one big one.
  • Eating out should be fun and expose you to new sensations, new experiences, new worlds; all the while either creating new, or triggering fond memories.
  • You dont need to eat a lot to be satisfied.
  • Pictures tell a thousand words, but nothing beats taste, smell and texture.
  • Dont overlook the beauty of simplicity, yet appreciate the skill in complexity.
  • Sharing is caring, and communal plates are great!
Tasting plates - awesome. This one @ Peko Peko.

One final disclaimer: Unless otherwise noted in the blog posts, The Degusters pay recommended asking price for every meal they eat, and do not in any way let the staff know that they are reviewing the service or the dishes during the meal. They don't ask for (nor expect) special treatment over and above that which any other customer would receive, and as such, do not "owe" any restaurant anything in the way of positive reviews.
